Under new management by Kevin Freund, the University of Montana’s Backcountry ski/snowboard club put on its first of many fundraisers to help backcountry enthusiasts stay safe, educated, and experienced. The event was held on Nov. 30th at Bayern Brewery where Face Plant, their delicious new brew was served and enjoyed. With an alcohol content of 7.5% it went down surprisingly smooth and like the name suggests it only took a few to get me tipsy!
A few movies were watched, and business discussed. Backcountry Access (BCA) made it to the event and was a big supporter in the raffle. Minot the BCA representative was there giving short clinics and answering questions about backcountry safety and techniques. They donated a full backcountry kit including a Tracker DTS Transceiver, and probe.
Other products in the raffle included donations from Pipestone Mtn. (NLTC), The Trailhead, Edge of the World, and Bob Ward & Sons. Thanks to their support they helped make the event a great success. The proceeds will go to equipment such as shovels, probes, and transceivers that members will be able to rent/borrow to ensure proper safety. Funds will also go to transportation fees to cut down on member expenses. We feel experience is the best way to learn technique and grow as outdoor enthusiast.
We encourage you to meet new faces and new peaks by joining and supporting the UM Backcountry Club.
Thanks for your support and we hope to see you at our next fundraiser…
